Peruvian restaurants often have a set menu for lunch. You choose a soup/appetizer, then a main course. This is caldo blanco. And this is a Peruvian pork chop. The total meal cost 7 soles, which was about $2.17 at the time. The main square Mercado San Camilo After this VW Beetle hit a colectivo, the colectivo operator got out and yelled at the driver, probably tried to get some money out of him, then just drove off. The Santa Catalina monestary is effectively a walled city within Arequipa. Lots of cool history here. I went mountain biking outside of Arequipa. The views were incredible. Alpacas! This is the main square in Cusco. Inca wall on the left, Spanish wall on the right. I did a Sacred Valley tour. After a week at high elevation close to the equator, I finally decided to buy a silly sun hat. The view from the Pisac fortress Cusco's coca museum was fascinating. Check out the Amy Winehouse exhibit if you get a chance. At night there were vendors grilling meat and selling these little kabobs. Amazing! And I didn't get sick! Pollerias are pretty common in Peru. This one was my favorite. The Ancascocha Trek is a 5 day trek, ending at Machu Picchu. I did a guided trek, and everything was taken care of. The cook was somehow able to make a cake for someone who had a birthday! Generally we woke up at around 5:30AM. Group picture with Veronica in the background. We camped near an abandoned school one night. After the first day, we were the only trekkers on the trail. It was great. Our guide said that would be true in the high season too. We weren't completely alone -- there were quite a few farmers and such. Machu Picchu! It turns out Machu Picchu is located in a rainforest. The weather mostly cooperated, even if the views were pretty cloudy at times. I had one last night in Cusco before heading home. There was a free concert in the main square.
