Mount Thielsen - 24 May 2020

Pictures from an October climb of the same mountain can be found here.

I was the only person camping at the trailhead. Cooking oatmeal and getting ready at 4:00 AM. Once you get to the ridge, the climb is really simple: follow the ridge to the top. Mount Bailey, Diamond Lake, and Thielsen's shadow. The higher you get, the steeper it gets I almost turned back here, but I was able to find good footing and continued up. I measured it, and the slope is 35 degrees in this photo. Towards the top it actually gets a little flatter Mount Scott and Mount McLoughlin, and I'm pretty sure you can see Shasta and Shastina in the distance. In the summer, this is a 20 foot wall you need to scale. In the winter, it's actually easier. Made it to Chicken Ledge! And I'm not climbing that in the winter. Obligatory selfie. If you look closely at the ridge, you can see the path down. There were lots of buried logs on the way back, covered by thin snow bridges.
