Cabo San Lucas - 8/29/2015-9/4/2015

Mindy and I went to Cabo San Lucas to celebrate our 1 year anniversary

We flew into San Jose del Cabo, then drove about an hour to Cabo San Lucas. Our first meal was at El Pollo del Oro, which was a Mexican barbecue place a little bit off the beaten path. The ribs were delicious! Can't complain about the price! We stopped at a local Wal-Mart to stock up on bottled water. We got ~30 liters of water for a little over $3. In addition, we got to see all of our favorite US brands en Espanol! After checking into the hotel, we walked a couple of blocks to the beach and grabbed dinner. The view from the hotel room. Another view from the hotel room. We decided to walk from the hotel to the marina, which allowed us to see a lot more of the city. When we got to the marina, we got lazy and took a boat taxi back to the hotel. The sea lion alone made the water taxi worth the $10. Queso fundido con chorizo! Mexican taco places are great. They give you a taco with meat on it, and then lots of toppings and condiments on the side. We decided to drive a couple of hours up the coast to Todos Santos. Unfortunately, much of the city was under construction since it was the offseason. We got lost while driving around in Todos Santos, then we got hungry and stopped at this taco place off the side of the road. This taco place had a refrigerated buffet-style taco condiment stand. After a 27% tip, our lunch cost $7.50. Almost immediately upon returning to the hotel, it started raining. Hard. We got our anniversary dinner at Sunset da Mona Lisa. The food was very good. I got the sea bass. Mindy got a spaghetti lobster dish. As the name implies, you get to see the sun set behind Cabo San Lucas. The restaurant had stadium-like seating, so every table had an unobstructed view. We were getting ready to leave, at which point in time they offered us free dessert and champagne! The next day we visited El Arco and Lover's Beach (see right), which is only accessible by boat. El Arco The Pacific side of the beach is called Divorce Beach. The Gulf of California side of the beach is Lover's Beach. Heading back to Cabo San Lucas. This is the closest thing to a breakfast burrito that Mindy could find. I got chorizo and eggs! We took a trip back to San Jose del Cabo to visit the town square. It was basically a giant tourist trap. There were lots of little shops, most of which tried to sell you overpriced trinkets. We also took a trip up the coast to Cerritos Beach. One of the advantages of going to the beach during the offseason is that no one else was there. We stopped off the side of the road for lunch and got carnitas tacos. It cost less than $2 for both of us. They boiled the carnitas before chopping them up and frying them.
