Aspen and Maroon Bells

I was in Aspen for C++Now 2015. While in Aspen, I also got a chance to do some hiking around the Maroon Bells.

Aspen has a tiny airport. C++Now 2015 was hosted at the Aspen Center for Physics. The views here were great. In the lower left hand corner, you can see part of the hotel. The Aspen Center for Physics is a great place to hold a conference. Look at what they want to do to C++! On the last day of the conference, another attendee and I drove up to Maroon Bells for some hiking. This is the view from the parking lot. Another view from the parking lot. Here's a view of Maroon Bells, a few minutes away from the parking lot. Maroon Lake is in the foreground. I believe that is Pyramid Peak. Looking back on Maroon Lake. The trail was initially pretty rocky. More Mountains! The south side of the mountains did not have any snow. Eventually the rocky trail became a snowy trail. The Maroon Bells. An awkward picture of me in front of the Maroon Bells. More mountains! The sun came out, and that started to melt the snow, increasing the difficulty of the hike. Several times I was knee deep in snow. Crater Lake, the end of this hike. The Maroon Bells again. Me with Pyramid Peak in the background. After the snow melts, I think you can hike through this pass and do a lot of additional hiking. Crater Lake. Shortly after leaving, the weather started to deteriorate a little. Maroon Lake. A beaver dam in Maroon Lake. By the end of the hike, it had started to snow.
