Not included in this gallery is a panorama of Bologna I took, which can be found here (11 MB warning): https://jsaxton.com/static_images/bologna.jpg

Our airbnb Another spacious apartment - no complaints here Our airbnb was right by this tower, which you can climb if you want Climbing the tower The view from the top - Bologna is an incredible city Our only gelato experience in Italy Pretty much all of the sidewalks in Bologna are covered like this Apparently Bologna has 40km of covered porticos Obligatory pasta with Bolognese sauce The Two Towers It turns out Teletext is still in use in Italy! The Porticoes of Bologna are a UNESCO World Heritage Site Bologna is home to the oldest University in the Western Hemisphere So much fresh pasta! Bologna is considered by many to be the culinary capital of Italy, so Mindy and I decided to splurge and take a cooking class. Our ravioli and tortelloni Chopping up vegetables for the Bolognese sauce Cooking the sausage zucchini filling for our ravioli One of the awesome things about Bologna is that the ingredients are super fresh. That pasta is so much yellower than the pasta we made at home, and the only difference is the quality of eggs. Rolling out the pasta If you're slow at stuffing pasta, it starts to dry out and shrink, making your job that much harder. Our instructor Stefano provided a simple solution to this problem. Slicing the tagliatelle To make the sage butter sauce, Stefano balanced this dish on top of a pot of boiling water. Very effective. Ricotta and parmesan tortelloni with a sage butter sauce Tagliatelle with our Bolognese sauce Sausage and zucchini ravioli Delicious This may have been our favorite meal of the trip Bologna is great -- it's lively, but not crowded We wandered into this square one night and they were playing Still Life -- and it was in English! Bologna is about half an hour away from Parma. The food here is incredible. Many bars have "aperitivos" which basically means that if you order a drink, you get a bunch of snacks to go with it. Unfortunately, we were completely full after our cooking class. More aperitivos. Bologna train station We took a train from Northern Italy through the Alps and Austria into Germany, finally arriving in Munich 7 hours later. The views were incredible Northern Italy Northern Italy Northern Italy This was taken near the Brenner Pass The Brenner Pass I think this was taken in Austria And now we're on the other side of the Alps in Germany
