Naples 2016

Not included in this gallery is a panorama of Naples I took, which can be found here (7 MB warning): https://jsaxton.com/static_images/naples.jpg

Flying into Naples Here's our Airbnb. It looks sketchy, but it is no more sketchy than any other part of Naples. The door within the door. Upon opening the door, you have to follow a series of little alleys to get to your apartment. Another random square on the way to the apartment. Another alley It was an extremely open space. Kitchen was nice, although the microwave was pretty dated. Vesuvius More "graffiti culture" A typical Italian breakfast Mindy and I saw this at a bakery, so we decided to try it. We didn't realize it was completely soaked in rum. Castel Nuovo The moat is now used for storage I guess. Castel Nuovo Clay tennis courts! The egg castle Half a liter of good wine costs 4 Euro in Naples. Massive portions of amazing pasta cost 6 Euro in Naples. The low prices made us think we should order a second course. That was a mistake. Grilled smoked provolone constitutes a second course. It actually works. Each of the subway stations in Naples has a unique theme. Another subway station. And another one. Pompeii Pompeii Note the little islands in the middle of the road. They're high enough so pedestrians can cross the street when it floods, but low enough for a chariot to ride over. I think this is a dog. If you look hard enough, you can see text on the rim of the sink. This used to basically be a fast food restaurant. Apparently it was really difficult to cook in the tiny apartments people had in Pompeii, so they ate out a lot. According to the food critics, this place has the best Neapolitan pizza in the world. It was pretty good, but not life changingly good like Parisian croissants. And it cost us 10 Euro for two pizzas and Driving in Naples sucks. Glad we didn't rent a car. Off to Rome!
